Silver Street Fisheries
Silver Street Fisheries is tucked away on West Cliff. Within easy walking distance of the Whale Bone Arch, Silver Street is a fantastic chip shop, popular with locals and visitors alike. There can be a queue at busy times, but it’s worth the wait!
Top Tip: Their ‘fish bites’ are an affordable option for families with small children.
Railway Chippy
Railway Chippy is located in the middle of a residential area, close to the hospital, Airy Hill School and the Ambulance Station. Very popular with locals, Railway Chippy is away from the busyness of the harbourside and town centre.
Top Tip: They provide a delivery service – perfect if you don’t want to leave the house on a cold winter’s night!
Riverside Fisheries
At the far end of Church Street, near the bottom of Green Lane, Riverside Fisheries is another of Whitby’s family-run favourites. It’s a small chip shop which only offers take-away service. If you’re planning a walk up to the Abbey, why not go the long way round? Head up Church Street, you’ll find Riverside Fisheries opposite Parkol Marine. Just past the chip shop Green Lane is on your left, heading up to the Abbey and the wind-swept cliff top.
Top Tip: If you’re heading out of town, on foot or by car, Riverside is easy to find and away from the hustle and bustle of the town centre.
Mister Chips Take Away
Mr Chips is well known for their town-centre restaurant and take-away. However, they recently opened a second take-away on Battery Parade, at the end of Pier Road. This is a fantastic location, close to the pIers and the beach. The bandstand is a favourite spot for enjoying a fish and chip take-away.
Top Tip: Beware of the seagulls – they’re particularly aggressive and opportunistic in this part of town.
Robertson’s Chips Away
Robertson’s is a town-centre chippy, near the swing bridge, on the east side of the River Esk. Located right in the centre of town, Robertson’s have lots of competition on their doorstep, but have remained a good value and popular take-away for years.
Top Tip: Ask about their vegetarian/vegan options.
Angel Fisheries
Angel Fisheries are located near the harbour, lookout for the big blue wall with the fish on it, next to the back of HSBC Bank. Why not collect your fish & chips from Angel Fisheries and then cross the road. You’ll find benches along the harbourside – the perfect place to enjoy a delicious meal and a great view of some of Whitby’s best-known landmarks.
Top Tip: Check out their calamari, prawn and whitebait options – delicious!
