The North Yorkshire Gallery is a family operated business offering photography to print. We pride ourselves on our standards and providing a friendly professional service. Our story has a humble beginning, we started out selling our canvases and prints at local shows and events and have grown to what we now have today, a spectacular gallery in the heart of Whitby with a global client base and following.
The North Yorkshire Gallery’s Whitby photography shop is situated on the east side of the Swing bridge on Church street. A short walk past our shop and you are en route to the famous 199 Steps and once at the top is such a breathtaking view and a much loved Whitby photography location. Continue a bit further on from the steps and you come to England’s most romantic ruin. The historic Abbey another spectacular and famous Whitby photography location. This being the old part of town and market area retains its historic charm and culture and has many quaint shops selling the gifts the town is famous for such as locally sourced and crafted jet and other jewellers unique to this part of England. Along with its trendy bars, cafes, restaurants and let’s not forget the fish and chips this is a truly mesmerising and enchanting part of Yorkshire and England’s favourite seaside destination.
All The North Yorkshire Gallery photographs are taken by landscape photographer Laurie Smithies. He has worked in a subterranean environment in Europe’s deepest mine for 20 years which has nurtured an appreciation and desire for the outdoors. Family aside Laurie’s passion is for landscape photography, he has gained a reputation as one of England’s best landscape photographers for his work capturing the striking and dramatically beautiful land known as ‘God’s Own County’.
We are home to a vast selection of stunning photos taken in and around the much loved district of North Yorkshire. Our collection reflects the wide variety of sensational landscapes offered by this area of immense natural beauty. Our gallery includes pictures and canvases of some of the most breath-taking locations and landmarks in the region, such as the majestic Roseberry Topping and the quaint and picturesque coastal villages of Runswick Bay, Staithes, Saltburn and Robin Hood’s Bay along with the famed Whitby Abbey with its 199 steps.
